Welcome to the InnerHealingMusic Blog…

The inherent power of music is unlike any other creative medium available. It’s one of the few art forms that can directly influence so many factors in our physical bodies. We are all aware of music’s awesome ability to get us pumped up for a sporting event, or to bring us introspection and reflection at a church service. What I’d like to bring to your attention, is the unique ability music has to  bring  holistic and  restorative elements to your physical body.  Some of these elements include: lowering blood pressure, slowing heart rate, assisting in digestion, slowing  brain waves and assisting in pain relief to name a few. When certain relaxation music is listened to with an open mind (mind not preoccupied with repetitive thoughts) the restorative elements in this music begin to have a positive effect on the body. This is achieved through a process called entrainment, which takes place when two oscillating bodies synchronize in phase so that they eventually vibrate in harmony. Through the listening of specific rhythmic, melodic or harmonic patterns, entrainment is eventually achieved. The time it takes for this process to occur varies for each person, although most composers who understand these principles when creating  music for relaxation, consider them very carefully. Within our own bodies we our constantly locking in our own biorhythms, meaning if you slow down your breathing for example, your heart rate and brain wave activity naturally slow as well. Contrarily if you slow down your brain wave activity, your breathing and heart rate will follow suit.

In this highly stressed world in which we live, the many positive physical benefits (as mentioned above) of tuning in and listening to relaxation music , may very well be just what the doctor ordered.
