Your Last New Year’s Resolution

Each year over 50% of the U.S. population makes New Year’s resolutions. Among the top New Years resolutions are to lose weight, exercise, and to stop smoking. Also popular are resolutions dealing with better money management and debt reduction. While most of the people who make these resolutions have the best of intentions, the following statistics show how many of these resolutions are maintained as time goes on:

- past the first week: 75%
- past 2 weeks: 70%
- after one month: 64%
- after 6 months: 45%

As you can see from the above, after 6 months only 45% of the people who made their resolutions in January are still sticking to them by June. The biggest question is why? Why don’t we keep the promises that we made to ourselves? I have some theories, but personally I feel that the biggest reason why most of us don’t stick to them is quite simple, there’s not a deeper reason to do so. Yes, I know that there are other factors involved in why people break promises to themselves. What I’m getting at is this; at our core we need a deeper reason to do something other than just a whimsical promise made by each and every December 31st because we “think” that we need to change something about our self. Yes, we most definitely need to change, but the real change we need is a change in our belief system, and I don’t just mean self belief, I mean God belief. A new belief and accountability system to God; based on His purpose for our life and not simply our own individual purpose. When we adopt this God centered belief system and are accountable to Him, everything begins to change. Our entire paradigm is shifted and we no longer just want to lose thirty pounds, but we want to be the healthiest person we can be in order to serve Him. We no longer just want to be a better spouse, mother or father, but a complete spouse mother and father. As we learn His word we know that He wants what is best for us in all aspects of our life; physically, emotionally, financially and yes, spiritually. For 2010 I invite you to make this the year you truly become familiar with His word and statutes. I guarantee you that it will be the best New Year’s resolution you will ever make, and most definitely the last one you ever need make.

Yours in health and healing,
