Believing in Yourself
We are all well aware that we’re living in a time when things aren’t necessarily as stable or as comfortable as they once were not too very long ago. Everywhere we turn these days things are changing, and at a pace few of us can keep up with. Most recently I was having lunch with a friend who proceeded to tell me that the local restaurant we were eating in would be closing soon due to a slow down in business. I replied “What did you say… closing”? I couldn’t believe it, all I could think about were the owners who literally lived in this place for the last twenty years. What was going through their minds? What would they now do? As we continued our conversation, my friend also informed me that his brother who had worked for a brake parts manufacturer for the last sixteen years, had just been let go because of downsizing due largely in part to the current state of the auto industry. Stories like these are becoming more and more common all across this country, at rates that are truly alarming. Add to this the technological advances that have crept into every other facet of our lives, and it’s easy to see how overwhelmed most of us feel.
Well, now that you’ve heard the “bad news”….. let me give you a bit of ”good news” to counter your fear and anxiety. The good news I’m referring to is the belief you must maintain in yourself. The constant, unwavering belief that God has created you with certain abilities and for a purpose, and although that specific purpose may not always be obvious, it still exists just the same. This self-belief will not only get you through these tough times, but will allow you to get through the trials and tribulations that will occur throughout your lifetime. Understand that I’m not talking about a self-belief based on your education, current job title, income or past performance…… that’ arrogance, but a belief based on the humble knowledge that you were created for a purpose, and that purpose is what fuels and maintains your core self- belief . Without this God-created belief, all your efforts will eventually be thwarted regardless of how much you try, or how hard you may work. On top of that, your anxiety will definitely remain at an all time high for a very, very long time.
